For those of you who are tired of drinking the same beer at parties such as Bud Light, Budweiser, Coors and Michelob Ultra (to name a few) and want to try new beer, you’re in luck.

The growing craft beer market in the DFW area is making it easy to try good local craft beers that are perfect for college students. While the DFW area is a young market in terms of craft beer, industry growth is at a record high.

If you haven’t tried craft beer and are interested in learning more be sure to try these four delicious choices.

1) Dallas Blonde – Deep Ellum Brewing Company

This beer is a light craft beer that is easy drink. This golden ale is a great mix of floral and citrus hints. Its overall great balance makes it enjoyable to drink.

ABV: 5.2%, IBU: 23

Where to buy: You can get this drink at almost all grocery stores in the DFW area and at Deep Ellum Brewing Company, which is located in Deep Ellum at 2823 St. Louis St. in Dallas.

2) Deep Ellum IPA – Deep Ellum Brewing Company

While this beer is rather bitter, it is one of Deep Ellum’s favorites. Its hints of tropical, floral, citrus and pine aromas are truly delightful and tasty. Be careful because this American, hop-filled beer is rather potent.

ABV: 7%, IBU: 70

Where to buy: Just like Dallas Blonde, you can get Deep Ellum IPA at almost all grocery stores in the DFW area and at Deep Ellum Brewing Company.

3) Velvet Hammer – Peticolas Brewing

Among the many delicious beers of Peticolas Brewing, velvet hammer is a force to be reckoned. This beer is imperial red ale, which is evident when taking a look at its color. The reddish-brown ale contains elements of caramel, a hint of sweetness and slight bitterness.

ABV: 9%, IBU: 85

Where to buy: This beer isn’t sold in any grocery stores, making it harder to find. On the first and third Saturdays of each month from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. you can go to the brewery, which is located on 2026 Farrington St. in Dallas. If you don’t want to wait, you can head to places such as Hopdoddy, Katy Trail Ice House and Lakewood Growler. If you want to find more places that sell Peticolas beer, click here.

4) Mosaic IPA – Community Beer Company

This beer is great for both avid craft beer drinkers and inexperienced drinkers alike. Its malty qualities balance out perfectly with the bitterness that comes with the hop flavor and keeps it light. Fun fact: “Mosaic” represents the diverse range of people that make up the Dallas community.

ABV: 8.6%, IBU: 85

Where to buy: You can find this beer in almost all grocery stores such as Tom Thumb, Kroger and Royal Blue Grocery as well as local bars. Likewise, you can head to Community Beer Company located on 1530 Inspiration Drive in Dallas.
