For those of you in from out of town, curious for what Dallas has to offer, or an event to attend when you’re not cheering on the Mustangs – you’re in the right place.
SMU is a good vantage point for the arts and entertainment scene in all of Dallas. From art on campus to a movie theater right across the highway, there is no reason to be bored in this city.
Here are the events that the A&E desk has picked as must-attends:
Meadows Symphony Orchestra Concert
This is the first concert of MSO’s season and features Rachminoff, Brahms and a new piece by Conductor Paul Phillips. The critically acclaimed orchestra combines the talent of both graduate and undergraduate students.

State Fair of Texas
“Our state fair is a great state fair, don’t miss it, don’t even be late.” This annual event opens this weekend with promises of new sickeningly delicious fried foods and larger than life pigs. Come say ‘howdy’ to Big Tex.

Shakespeare in the Park: “Two Gentlemen of Verona”
The weather is supposed to be nice this weekend, so pack a picnic and enjoy a relaxing evening under the stars with your loved ones and the great bard himself.

Concerts at the Granada Theater
This historic theater brings in unique talent both nationally and internationally. The two shows this weekend are country music artist Charlie Robison and soul-man Jamie Lidell. These two vastly different shows are worth seeing in a fun venue conveniently located just east of campus on Greenville Avenue.

Uptown Festival
This all-day event celebrates the charm of this area of town. There will be food, music, trolley rides, artist and artisan booths, historic home tours and so much more. This is a fun way to get a feel for the heart of Dallas.

Inwood Theatre’s showing of “The Room”
This movie has become a cult phenomena that is, as of yet, still under the radar. Join in the regulars as they yell, taunt and throw spoons at the screen.

Spend a night with the men in blue, as they entertain you with everything from music, comedy and what feels like the biggest dance party you’ve ever attended. This show, which travels all over the world, is something that you must see at least once – but chances are, you’ll be hooked.
