As gas prices continue to rise, Katie Ruppe, a sophomore education and journalism major at SMU, will be digging even deeper into her allowance pockets in order to fill up her car's fuel tank.

"My mom gives me money to pay for one tank of gas a month, everything else I pay for myself, so the higher gas prices have really started to cut in to my allowance," said Ruppe.

At the beginning of this semester, Ed Board was ready and rarin' to go. We were stocked full of ideas and opinions, and we were ready to write. Almost 60 issues later, we're exhausted. So rather than discuss Iraq, the presidential election, gas prices, the Beijing Olympics, the rising cost of food or anything important like that, we're going to get all nostalgic on you and take a look back at this semester because, oh, what a semester it has been.

How did I spend my final moments at SMU?

Watching "Barney" in my advanced broadcast journalism class on Tuesday morning.

You could make the argument that it's everything coming full circle, from childhood to adulthood.

But I think it just shows how random my time here has been.

We are defined by the choices we make. The choice to serve Jesus is not what defines a person, nor is sexuality. I am defined by the way I treat my wife, my friends and my family. I am defined by the way I serve God, not that I choose to do. We either accept all of God's word, including what it says about homosexuality, or we don't.

Sometimes I think the most common sight to see on this campus is the top of someone's head. And coming from a woman who is five-feet-five-inches on a really good day, this is saying quite a bit. It amazes me that people can walk, talk and even eat while looking down at what is in their hands instead of paying attendtion to where they are going while text messaging.

America rules. That is a fact. Let me make that clear because I love this country more than anything. It has made my life absolutely worth living because of the basic freedoms afforded by the First through 13th Amendments.

That said, America has a problem that it needs to deal with.
