By Daniella Rivera and Parminder Deo In a blink they were gone. After the numbers were in and the electoral votes were counted, disheartened clapping could be heard throughout the hall, and the crowd of over 1,000 people was reduced to less than half its size at the Dallas County Republican watch party at the Hilton Lincoln Center. Supporters of Gov. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan came in with cautious hope, but walked away disappointed. Republican Victoria Smith was disappointed, but still has hope for the Republican Party in the future. “I was hoping that he would win. I knew there were some tough swing states he needed to win; I know he’s been working very hard in them. It is disheartening, but I think the Republican Party will be...Students at Hughes-Trigg favor outcome

by Lara Mirgorod SMU students attending an on-campus watch party are very excited that President Obama has won re-election. Mitt Romney supporters left a long time ago. For the amount of support there is for Obama here at Hughes-Trigg center, there are a few students who did not even vote. “I didn’t know it was election day, but I am a huge supporter of Obama. I thought that I could still vote this weekend,” said SMU Freshman Xavier Wilson. Many other students including Nohemi Mora who did vote are very excited because it is their first watch party. “It is also my first time voting, because I am 18. I am so excited that the candidate I voted for won,” says Mora. Many people are popping balloons and standing on tables. by Julie Fancher With the confirmation that President Obama has been re-elected for a second term and the Democrats have maintained a majority in the Senate, the crowd at the Dallas County Democratic watch party celebrated with hugs, tears and chants of "four more years." The energy in the Hyatt Regency ballroom already was high, with the release of more electoral college votes indicating the task for Gov. Mitt Romney was becoming impossible. As Obama began to close in on the 270 electoral votes needed to win, State Senator Royce West said, "243, we need what 27 more. Needless to say it is going to happen." West continued to say he believes Obama will win the popular vote as well as the electoral college. "This will show all independents that he is taking the...Some SMU students react negatively to results

by Billy Embody With Ohio being announced as Obama, Barley House has become a somber atmosphere with talk of socialism and disappointment. Socialism is in fact one of the most heard words in Barley tonight after the news that Obama has been reelected has surfaced. Many here are huge Republican supporters and are worried for the next four years. “I’m really at a loss for words. I was hoping my country would pull through for Team Romney, but I have been mistaken,” SMU junior Michelle Navarre said. It has become rowdier at Barley as students have already doubled since the election has been called and as the night progresses, I would expect a packed bar and many people wondering what is next. Most people here are college students and with jobs at a premium already, many are...Barley House attracts Republican crowd

by Billy Embody At Barley House, an SMU hangout, a mostly Republican crowd has gathered to watch the election results stream in. Although the crowd is small, many are pretty opinionated as to who they would like to see come out on top in this Presidential election. “I think Romney is clearly the better candidate and the best to balance the budget. I think the main problem is that people are voting a lot on just social issues instead of economic issues, which would lead to Obama being the one who would come out on top,” SMU junior Margaret Ellen Crawford said. Just now, a huge applause has erupted because Mitt Romney has been called to win the state of North Carolina even though Obama is now just 26 votes away from winning the election with Florida still up for grabs. ...
