In a blink they were gone.

After the numbers were in and the electoral votes were counted, disheartened clapping could be heard throughout the hall, and the crowd of over 1,000 people was reduced to less than half its size at the Dallas County Republican watch party at the Hilton Lincoln Center.

Supporters of Gov. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan came in with cautious hope, but walked away disappointed.

Republican Victoria Smith was disappointed, but still has hope for the Republican Party in the future.

“I was hoping that he would win. I knew there were some tough swing states he needed to win; I know he’s been working very hard in them. It is disheartening, but I think the Republican Party will be stronger in 2016,” Smith said.

Jordan Miller, Vice President of the Young Republicans Club of Dallas, is dwelling on the positive.

“This night is about celebration; it’s important that we won a lot of local victories,” Miller said.
