The Pretty Kitty salon in Mockingbird Station does waxing at its finest. No more going to sketchy nail parlors for maintenance! This posh boutique is glitzed to the max with black, pink, and anything that glitters. The salon offers an array of services, from eyebrows to legs to Brazillians (their specialty)!

Spring break is right around the corner, and The Pretty Kitty is offering a "buy one get one" deal for SMU students. The offer runs from Feb. 24 to March 6.

Friendly Fashion

02/28/12 10:15 AM

by Ellie Slater, eslater@smu.edu The fashion industry has been making great strides over the past few years to promote eco-friendly fashion.  A few designers have started lines dedicated to the "eco-chic" ideals, while other designers have changed their entire design regime to create more eco-friendly clothing.    Two designers, former Project Runway contestant, Nora Caliguri, and her colleague Rachelyn Porter,  have created an amazing eco-chic clothing line called Larsen Gray.    Larsen Gray consists of entirely eco-friendly fashion, using materials such as bamboo jersey and organic cotton to create their stylish dresses, shirts, pants, and more.   EcoFashionWorld.com is another powerful, and fabulous, advocate of...

Men's Accessories

02/22/12 15:02 PM

by Kian Hervey, khervey@smu.edu, @YesWeKian As women's fashion takes spotlight, men's fashion seems to be making its own strides.   More and more men are turning to accessories to increase their style and appeal. Retailers report an almost 15 percent increase in men's clothing sales and wristwear (bracelets) and carryalls (purses) are leading the margin.   With the year just beginning, there's no sign of menswear slowing down. While some may see the well fashionable man as a feminine trend, most agree a well-accessorized, groomed mate is definitely a good one. ...

Spring Look

02/20/12 13:35 PM

by Ashley Wali, anwali@smu.edu, @AshleyNicolaW As the weather is getting a little warmer, it’s time to start transitioning from winter to spring. The best way to do this is mix warm winter separates with spring pieces. Get a flowy white lace or crochet dress to instantly channel a bohemian vibe. Layer on turquoise jewelry with gold accents for a pop of color. Pull on a pair of neutral booties or leopard booties for a bolder look. Pair this comfy outfit with a cocoon jacket and neutral over the knee socks for added comfort. Add a worn leather messenger bag and loosely braid your hair with neutral makeup to complete the look.  ...

Winter White

02/16/12 14:20 PM

by Grace Davis, gdavis@smu.edu, @GraceVDavis, Style with Grace   One of the best parts about fashion week is not the looks that come down the runway, but the ones that walk down the streets. My favorite “one to watch” is Norway native, fashion photographer, blogger, and VOGUE contributor Hanneli Mustaparta. Last time ‘round, she captured me with her cycling skills in Rag + Bone leggings. This time, it’s her mix of pastel sky blue and bright white. The Proenza Schouler scroll necklace is major and her layering has been New York mastered. Plus her bone structure doesn’t seem to take away from the outfit either, clearly I’m crushing. Check more street style looks on The Cut....

Whitney Houston: 80s Fashion

02/14/12 17:06 PM

by Kian Hervey, khervey@smu.edu, @YesWeKian   While we pay tribute to Whitney Houston, shocked and saddened by her early death, let us take a moment to reflect on the fashion statements she made in her lifetime.   Surviving the 1980s full of big hairstyles, bright colors, and leotards reiterates Houston's talent as a singer, actress and model. Her debut video, "I Wanna Dance with Somebody,"  features Houston showing off her gorgeous frame with a tight black dress, neon green leggings and crop top, pale purple scoopneck, and orange one-sleeve hit. In "Saving All My Love for You," she serenades her love with black leggings, an off-the shoulder shirt, and orange tank. Following up with a...

Trend: Fringe Benefits

02/13/12 23:41 PM

by Ashley Wali, anwali@smu.edu, @AshleyNicolaW Stay trendy and channel a boho vibe by sporting fringe this spring. Fringe is easily one of spring’s most versatile trends. To instantly transform a simple look, carry a bold fringe bag or layer on a trendy fringe belt. Rock an edgy fringe leather skirt or a statement fringe necklace for a daring look. Stand out at any event in a jewel tone or neutral dress. For a relaxed vibe, slip into a fringe kimono. How will you rock this trend? ...

Get Back on Track in Style

02/13/12 13:37 PM

by Ellie Slater, eslater@smu.edu   With 2012 just over a month underway, the decision of whether to stick with the New Years resolution of a new aggressive workout routine, or quit and go back to sitting on the good old couch is brought to our attention.  However, don't give up on that new exercise routine quite yet because I have a way to get your New Year's resolution back to where it should be: great workout clothes.    Instead of dreading those long workouts, make them something you look forward to by dressing in something that will make you feel good about yourself, as well as look good while you are exercising.  LuluLemon is a great option when it comes to looking and feeling good while you are exercising.  Their yoga pants are...

02/09/12 16:20 PM

by Grace Davis, gdavis@smu.edu, @GraceVDavis, StylewGrace.com Today, New York Fashion Week opens its tents and photographers from all over will be taking off their lens caps to capture each memory-making moment outside and inside the shows. With the Big Apple anticipating snow, it’s for certain we will be seeing the New York staple accessory, scarves.  A short video from one of my favorite bloggers, Wendy’s LookBook, can help you achieve a street style worthy scarf in no time. Back to Black

02/08/12 16:56 PM

by Kian Hervey, khervey@smu.edu, @YesWeKian   While spring is just around the corner, the cold windy weather of a lingering fall and winter is forcing even the brightest trendsetter back to black. But black does not have to be synonymous with boring. Angela Simmons donned black and orange. Madonna sported black and gold. There is a winning color combination out there just for you. Jazzing up drab black all starts with an eye-popping hue. SMU Stylista Rebecca Marin recommends pretty pastels; Ashley Wali opts for sea foam green. It’s easy to match the basic color with anything. Knock your outfit out of the park with some killer black pumps or a black blazer and people will remember black is always in season.   ...
