Rocking the 'Stache
by Hillary Schmidt, hjschmidt@smu.edu
The mustache-trend has taken the fashion world by storm- by what seems to have been over night. This craze was introduced by the “hipsters,” but it has certainly caught on outside of this subculture.
Images of the mustache are being printed on t-shirts, cups, accessories, iPhone cases… you name it.
The mustache symbol typically appears as a black manicured handlebar- a style that was first seen in the 18th century on European soldiers during World War I.
The most popular look is the strictly shaped mustache printed on a loose fitting tee. Ironically enough, it is seen mostly on girls.
So if you’re looking for a way to incorporate a tomboy feel into your wardrobe, this is a trendy and fun way to do so. You certainly don’t have to be a “hipster” to pull it off!
