Spritz It On
by Hillary Schmidt, hjschmidt@smu.edu
A girl should never leave the house without a spritz (or few) of her favorite perfume. Deodorant just doesn’t cut it, having a signature smell is what it’s all about.
The obvious places to spray are on the neck and wrists. But, to keep the smell lasting longer, be sure to apply on your “pulse points.”
These are the locations where blood vessels are near the skin’s surface- these areas give off more heat, and as heat emits from these points, the fragrances comes along with it.
So- in addition to your inner wrist, the inside of your elbow, behind your ears, and yes- even behind you knees- are the way to go.
And then, for that final touch, spray a few feet in front of your body, then walk immediately through it.
Note that “parfum” lasts longer than “eau de toilette” and “eau du parfum” because it has more oils- which make the fragrance evaporate slower.
Also, remember that every girl’s body chemistry is different. Just because it may smell great on your friend, it doesn’t mean it will on you too. Bring a friend with you when you’re perfume shopping, and take their word for it (as long as their trustworthy, of course).
A few of the classics include: Chanel No. 5, Miss Dior, Shalimar by Guerlain, L’air du Temps by Nina Ricci, and Joy by Jean Patou.
