Look Hot for the Holidays

12/02/12 16:41 PM

by Hillary Schmidt, hjschmidt@smu.edu No matter what your plans are for the holidays, there is bound to be an opportunity to throw on a holiday dress- hey, every girl loves an excuse to dress up every now and then, even if the attire doesn’t require anything too fancy! The best go-to colors are red, dark green and gold. Velvet dresses looks great in red and green, and will keep you warm as the temperature continues to drop. A sequined gold dress helps you to stand out, and can come in handy for not only the holidays but New Years as well. That way, you don’t have to feel as guilty breaking the bank (ok- don’t over do it though!). Add excitement to your dress by sporting heels with an embellishment. When it comes to the holidays, it’s time to go all out! If the occasion isn’t...

Trying a new trend

11/27/12 10:49 AM

by Hillary Schmidt, hjschmidt@smu.edu You can be extremely fashion forward and read every page of every fashion magazine, but the trends you find are most likely not all for you. When it comes to trying a new trend, there are a few things to keep in mind. First of all, if you come across something that seems a bit out of your comfort zone, but you can see yourself wearing it- try it! It’s easy to get nervous around something that you have never tried before, but you’re style will forever be the same if you never do something spontaneous. Secondly, be realistic. Often what you see on the runway or in magazines is highly exaggerated in terms of what you would wear. Models are wonderful for inspiration, but don’t take their looks literally. Tone them town to your own level,...

Quick rundown of new trends

11/25/12 21:11 PM

by Hillary Schmidt, hjschmidt@smu.edu There are two new trends that designers have introduced that are definitely worth knowing about. Here is a quick rundown of what they are, and what to wear. 1. Velvet. Ok, so obviously we have heard about velvet as a hot trend in the past, but it is one of those timeless fabrics that you’re sure to re-wear winter after winter. It’s definitely worth it to invest in a few pieces. When it comes to this trend, focus on deep, vivid colors. To spice up this look, sport quilted- yes, you read that right… this pattern isn’t just for bedspreads- velvet jackets to keep warm and stay stylish at the same time. Designers have expanded their lines that were filled with velvet blazers all the way to velvet skinny pants, heels and bags. A...

Spritz It On

11/20/12 13:56 PM

by Hillary Schmidt, hjschmidt@smu.edu   A girl should never leave the house without a spritz (or few) of her favorite perfume. Deodorant just doesn’t cut it, having a signature smell is what it’s all about. The obvious places to spray are on the neck and wrists. But, to keep the smell lasting longer, be sure to apply on your “pulse points.” These are the locations where blood vessels are near the skin’s surface- these areas give off more heat, and as heat emits from these points, the fragrances comes along with it. So- in addition to your inner wrist, the inside of your elbow, behind your ears, and yes- even behind you knees- are the way to go. And then, for that final touch, spray a few feet in front of your body, then walk immediately through it. Note that...
