Bloggers take over fashion week

02/14/13 13:13 PM

By Hillary Schmidt / hjschmidt@smu.edu Who would have thought five years ago that bloggers would be sitting in the same row as Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, at some of the most exclusive runway shows like New York Fashion Week? Well, then again, is it really that big of a surprise? The blog sphere has exploded… girls and guys are starting to look to blogs for style advice in addition to, or even in place of, fashion designers and magazines. What’s so loved about blogs is that the reader can connect on more of a personal level with the blogger. Readers begin to form a trust-relationship in which they rely on the blogger for style and beauty tips, and for information about specific fashion-related items that they may not have known about. It’s hard to believe...

"Voguepedia" provides an online encyclopedia of everything fashion related

01/27/13 16:10 PM

By Hillary Schmidt / hjschmidt@smu.edu If you love all things fashion and beauty, you’ll love Voguepedia, otherwise known as “The world of fashion in Vogue.” Who couldn’t love the idea of a site like this, come on, we all know Vogue is fashion’s bible. Voguepedia offers a search engine where you can look up information on just about any beauty designer, any brand, any clothing designer, any editor, model, photographer, you name it. It also includes a Vogue “Archive” that allows access to every issue and every page of Vogue from 1892 up until today. So, if you love your Vogue, it could be worth the $3,250 a year (ok… and if you want to break your bank). I highly recommend checking out the website, whether you just want to brush up on some facts, or if you need some...

Michelle Obama: Style Icon

01/24/13 20:13 PM

By Hillary Schmidt / hjschmidt@smu.edu As I am sure you all know, President Obama’s inauguration was this past Monday. Although many anticipated the President’s speech, many also anticipated what Michelle Obama was going to wear. Mrs. Obama sported a gorgeous red Jason Wu gown that she looked stunning in. She clearly thought out her outfit choice- not only is red her color, but she wore a dress made by an American designer. Makes sense, huh? American president, American dress. Smart move! On another note, many of us fall in love with anything that Kate Middleton wears- she is always put together and has such an amazing sense of style. So, you may assume that Kate Middleton is much more of a fashion icon than Michelle Obama. However, this isn’t necessarily the case. Mrs....

Finals Week Do’s and Don’ts

12/09/12 14:43 PM

by Lauren Adams, ladams@smu.edu   Finals can be a style killer, but stress doesn’t have to mean sweatpants. If your current look can be described as “unintentional ‘90s grunge,” we’ve got problems ... and not just the kind on your Calc exam. You can be cozy and cute. Just a few simple swaps will take you from library geek to library chic. DO Ditch the slippers. Exhaustion is not an excuse for laziness. Try on equally comfy (but more socially acceptable) options like moccasins, your favorite flats, or even some colorful tennies. These boots don’t sacrifice style for comfort and warmth. DON’T Clunk around the library in stilettos and stacked bangles. I love a good Arm Party as much as the next girl, but when your accessories are distracting others from...
