Police Blog: April 1-April 9

April showers bring ... unusual crimes to the campus of SMU so far this semester. SMU PD received its first report of Terroristic Threat/Criminal Mischief at the Pi Kappa Alpha house on April 9 at 1:15 a.m. Students who are members of the house reported damages to a grill and table. An unknown male picked up a broken leg of the grill and began swinging it in their direction. Open.
Another SMU PD first involved a report of “Aggravated Assault/Unlawful Restraint/Possession of Fictitious License or ID/Interference with Emergency Telephone Call” on April 4 at 6:22 p.m. at Boaz Hall. A student was arrested and booked into Dallas County jail for aggravated family violence, felony unlawful restraint and interference with 911. Closed.
Other crimes on campus so far this April include:
• Criminal Mischief was reported at the Beta Theta Pi House on April 4 at 12:58 p.m. A student reported some unknown person threw a brown beer bottle from the FIJI House backyard onto the Beta Theta Pi's House basketball court and ran inside. Open.
• On April 6 at 12:07 p.m. officers responded to a fire alarm at Dallas Hall. It was determined it was caused by contractors using a concrete saw and stirring up dust into the smoke detector. The fire alarm was reset and all units cleared with no further incident. Closed.
• On April 9 at 1:16 a.m. UPFD responded to an active fire alarm at Umphrey Lee Center. It was determined it was caused by an Aramark employee who was shampooing and vacuuming the carpet in the ballroom. UPFD reset the fire panel and cleared with no further incident. Closed.
