Moving and Improving

Moving+and+Improving

I am about to finish college this semester and I received a job offer in New York City, where I do have some family. I have a six-year-old kid who loves it here in South Carolina. We bond with sports and we are very close. However, he’s been acting out, because he is not a fan of moving to a new place and making new friends. To make matters worse, his birthday is coming up soon. I am trying to convince him that the move is for the best. I wanted to surprise him with a birthday party ready to go as soon as we drive up to our new home. Any ideas on how I can hire a moving company that would take care of the move so that I could focus on the birthday party?

Wow, it sounds like quite an exciting time for you. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation and your new job. New York is a beautiful state, and New York City is amazing; filled with various places to visit and a multitude of things to do. Once your kid experiences the city in person, he will be a New Yorker for life! With the Mets, Yankees, Jets, Giants, Knicks, Nets, Islanders, and Rangers to choose from, you guys will have plenty of fun and bonding moments. Kids are resilient. If he has you, he’ll change his mind.

Moving is a pain. Packaging up belonging and valuables, boxing the items up, and labeling everything so that it is easier to sort later are not activities most people would look forward to performing. Moving out of state is even a bit trickier. However, according to a recent Gallop poll, one-third of American would love to move to another state. I guess the idea of starting over in a completely different place is attractive to many. Regardless, moving can be a bit expensive. Costs associated with gasoline, insurance, movers, hotels, security deposits, and tolls add up. Therefore, start by making a budget and save. You may also want to discuss relocation costs with your employer. Some companies aid by covering or reimbursing some of the expenses of moving. This happens during the negotiation phase. Nevertheless, asking will not hurt and may end up saving you a lot of money.

When doing this on your own, the process will involve renting a truck one way and loading and unloading everything. Items often break, don’t make the trip, people must discard them. Therefore, discarding items that you won’t take should be part of the plan. Also, look for movers in your area. Finding a cheap moving company involves some research and asking key questions to ensure that your belongings are safe and will be treated with respect and caution. Make sure you hire a licensed and insured company to perform the move. Then, decide on the services that you will be needing. Some people need just a basic labor-only move where they pick up boxes and items, place them on a truck, drive them to a location, and take them off the truck at the new location.

From what you described in your question, it seems that your move will be a bit more complex. You will need to find a company that can help with the unpackaging and placement of items so that you can focus on something else. Given the level of complexity, you will need to plan well ahead of time. Do not make things up as you go. Think about what is worth moving and what is easier to replace. The idea of moving an old 42” television should not be crossing your mind. Did you invest in a luxury tub? That may be too difficult to move. Read up on walk in tub reviews in your new state and think about upgrading.Last, select a moving company and schedule the dates so. Mark and label everything so that there is no doubt as to the placement of the items.

Welcome to New York! The first item of business is that incredible birthday party you plan to execute for the little guy. Since you want to be able to host the event as soon as you arrive, you must do some planning. Take care of kid items, such as bounce house rentals, petting zoos, or clowns ahead of time. Make sure to call and schedule everything according to your needs. Catering services will be the way to go as time is of vital importance; therefore, have all the simple items such, as disposable plates, cups, and spoons ready to go.

Since you have family in New York, it will be easier to coordinate these activities. Ask for cooperation and send them a copy of the keys ahead of time. This way, the party items can be set up and ready to go. It would be very difficult to receive the items in a scheduled time while you are driving across several states. Any slight deviation from the schedule and you will risk deliveries and setup. Therefore, obtaining help from loved ones nearby in New York is indispensable. You may end up owing a huge favor, but it will be well worth it. Once you see the kids smiling and running around, feel free to grab a cold one and enjoy a jam monster.

New York City is an amazing place to live and visit. You are in the center of the entertainment hub of the world, with access to any type of entertainment that you want. I am positive that you and your kid will be able to enjoy the many activities that the city has to offer. With the first experience being a great birthday party, your new life will be off to a great start. As stressful as the move will seem, with time, both of you will remember the great times and memories made. Enjoy the drive up, as well. There is nothing like a road trip to talk and bond!
