"Pony Up" campaign in middle of rollout

Abstract:
The Athletic Department hopes students, fans and Dallas area residents are ready to "Pony Up" for SMU football this season. The department's new marketing campaign is centered around the "Pony Up" catchphrase, which began rolling out in late July.

This week the department unveiled the second phase of the campaign, which brings the message outside the SMU community....

It seems to be a very ill conceived marketing plan. Not only is the whole arrow thing confusing once you get it, you think they are about to start paying their players again. It makes SMU the butt of many new jokes.

The whole "fans at SMU "boulevard" rather than tailgate" thing is the worst yet, SMU already has a stigma of be a bunch of brat elitists. I am sure that slogan is going to help with that perception. I guess they are not really trying to increase attendance.

The genesis of "Pony Up," campaign must be in special school. This garbage obviously came off the top of someone's head that did not fully understand their market, the history, and the preconceived notions of SMU.

What does "fans at SMU Boulevard not tailgate" mean? That doesn't even make sense. Who ever wrote that should be embarrased. Hopefully not someone from the ad school.

The campaign is fine to me. Those are obscure thought processes that John mentions. I'd guarantee that SMU is not going to miss out on much attendence because we "boulevard." I mean, seriously, how important is that to those outside of SMU? .... ..... ..... And, for that matter, how is the arrow thing "confusing, once you get it?" That phrase humored me. As a student, I'm glad to see a presence for SMU (football) in the metroplex now.
