Pole dancing: the new sexy workout

Abstract:
Hidden between the flashy lights of pubs on Greenville Avenue is a little red door that leads you to The Girls Room. It's dark outside, which sets the mood.

Britney Spears, Demi Moore, Carmen Electra and many more celebrities started a new workout craze: pole dancing....

Why does pretending to be a sex worker tend to boost the self esteem of upper and middle class white women?
Just because you learn to pole dance doesn't mean that your husband will stop going to strip clubs or stop seeing other women.
Most women strip not because it's *tee he he* super fun and naughty, but because they have no other practical choices.
How about learning self defense as a path to empowerment?
And stop trying to appropriate a culture you will never understand.

I believe this article only wanted to point out that pole dancing can be a fun workout, it does not imply that your husband will stop going to strip clubs at all. It builds your muscular tone and it can make you feel sexy. Is that so bad? I tried it and I thought it was very much fun. By the way, half of the women were African American or Latin so no point in trying to insult what you call "upper and middle class white women."

I have never taken exotic dance classes because I want my "husband to stop going to strip clubs." I take the classes to become more empowered, and because I think it's a cool and fun form of dance. Exotic dance was once embraced by women hundreds of years ago. Then, at some point, it was taken away and put up on a stage for only men to enjoy and control. That's where the stigma and idea of degradation came about. There is nothing wrong with us women taking this great form of dance back for ourselves and/or also using it when we see fit to entertain our men. Lighten up and let people enjoy themselves and feel good without criticizing them and coming to conclusions that are incorrect.
