Bowden not an option for SMU

Abstract:
Don't count on Terry Bowden to be another option in SMU's head coaching search. The ex-Auburn coach was rebuffed multiple times by SMU this fall when he inquired about the position according to a source who spoke with Bowden while he was in Dallas calling the Cotton Bowl for Westwood One Radio.

well that is just absolutely ridiculous. if the quote from the "source" is true SMU made a big mistake. Any coach that can have a record like Terry Bowden at a school (Auburn) and conference (SEC) vastly superior to SMU and C-USA, we should take supreme interest in. June Jones will just bring that ridiculous run-and-shoot offense to SMU and as we saw in the Sugar Bowl that offense doesn't create elite teams.

I think the Athletic Department owes Mr. Bowden and the University an explanation.

The athletic department at SMU had better have something really good lined up.

Man, SMU better have a stunning candidate up their sleeve. After Hawaii's performance I would rather have Terry Bowden any day. If they screw this up again, the alumni will raise some hell.

As an alum of the university I couldn't be happier with this decision. Terry Bowden might win games, but it is not necessary to sacrifice the integrity of the university in the process.

Rather than hire another re-tread, it would be nice to see the AD go after a young bright mind in the game. At this point our program can be viewed as nothing more than a stepping stone position. To think otherwise is wishful and naive.

Our football program has sunk to the depths of stepping stone status for coaches and to view it in any other light is both wishful and naive. This hire should be someone who has a bright future, not someone whose past is checkered (hello coaches Bowden and Jones).

Would you care to back up your accusations with evidence (links), or are you content simply to lob ad hominem bombs while this coaching search continues humming along on its present (courseless) course?
