I'm sure many would take issue with the author's characterizing of the Iraq War as "the most disastrous military campaign in the history of the world." I tend to think that the most disastrous military campaigns in the world are the ones belonging to the losers. I suppose it depends on how we define "disastrous." If we are speaking in terms of loss of human life: not hardly. If we are speaking in terms of loss of political power: not hardly. If we are speaking in terms of loss of moral authority: not convinced. If we are speaking in terms of loss of overall public support: perhaps. The good thing, however, is that we live in an age in which discontent with the government is allowed and is vocalized passionately. I'm no historian, but I'm fairly certain there have been some colossal blunders in military history that surpass the Iraq War.
