The best and worst of frozen pizzas

Emily Heft, food editor, and friends reviewed personal-size pizzas found at local grocery stores. Some were great, some were woefully lacking– all pizza is not created equal.

Red Baron Single’s Cheese Deep Dish

IMG_6348.jpg

Crust:

Tastes like a real pan pizza. 4/5

Cheese:

Ample cheese, and many different kinds, make every bite good. 3/5

Sauce:

Flavorless except an oily sweetness. 2/5

Overall:

It’s almost really good. Maybe if you put it in a toaster oven. 3/5

California Pizza Kitchen Personal Four Cheese

imagejpeg_0 (2).jpg

Crust:

The crust is crunchy and sweet. Quality thin crust. 4/5

Cheese:

There’s a big variety of cheeses, but they’re overpowered by a smelly gouda. 1/5

Sauce:

Flavorful, but just overpowered a bit by the cheese. 4/5

Overall:

If you’re a fan of cheeses, you’d like it. Oven bake or it’ll get soggy! 3/5

Lean Cuisine Personal Cheese Pizza

imagejpeg_0.jpg

Crust:

Chewy. Cunchy. All that crust should be. 4/5

Cheese:

Standard mozzarella browned nicely in the oven. 4/5

Sauce:

So good! Very flavorful. Lots of basil. 5/5

Overall:

It’s not the prettiest one, but it’s the best one. 4/5

Digiorno’s Cheese Stuffed Crust

IMG_4790.jpg

Crust:

The stuffed crust was barely discernable. Overly chewy. 2/5

Cheese:

The cheese was concentrated in the middle like a crater. It did have great flavor, though. 3/5

Sauce:

Overly sweet and chemically sauce wasn’t pleasant. 1/5

Overall:

The packaging promised a beautiful pizza, and a beautiful pizza I did not get. Disappointing. 2/5
