Ed Board would like to take a moment and say farewell to newly re-retired Cowboys coach Bill Parcells. The Cowboys went a meager 34-30 under Parcells in the regular season and didn't get past the first round of playoffs the two times they made it in Parcells' four seasons. (0) comments

Faculty should welcome debate with conservatives

Several of my colleagues in the history department at SMU have publicly expressed their passionate opposition to the presence of a presidential library, museum, or institute on our campus. Lest it appear that they represent the views of all historians in the our department, I would like to say for the record that some of us think this enterprise will be a significant asset for SMU. A Colossal wreck at SMU

I have resisted commenting on the Bush Library - in part because my opposition would come as a surprise to no one, in part because others have argued against it much more articulately than I could and also in part because as a non-tenured lecturer, my opinion matters about as much as that of the feral cats that live around the over-crowded Clements Hall, which houses not only Dedman advising, foreign languages and math, but also education, honors, ESL, women's studies, African-American studies, ethnic studies and Mexican-American studies - have I left anyone out? An open letter to all on the Hilltop: When I learned today that SMU is the sole contender to house the George W. Bush presidential library, I was dismayed. Why, I wonder, is the alma mater of his wife preferable to his own? More importantly, we are writing you concerning our friend Jacob Stiles. Nobody has been more affected by the passing of Jake than the members of SAE, and it is extremely disappointing to see so much ignorance and misinformation filling the pages of our campus newspaper.
