Wow. That's all Ed Board can think to say about Rick Perry's latest bonehead move. Last Tuesday, Perry signed the so-called Castle Doctrine into law. Never mind that the law is named for the macho notion that a man's home is his castle. Who the hell thought it was a good idea to give your average Joe license to shoot first and think later? Perry's statement that you ought to be able to protect yourself is reasonable. (2) comments
This article is a response to the op-ed by Professor Roger Parks published in yesterday's Daily Campus. His article creates an awkward situation at best, misrepresents facts at worst both unintended, I suspect, by Professor Parks, but begging for clarification nevertheless. (2) comments
Thursday morning, I noticed something while perusing The Daily Campus; another fantastically errant diatribe from Russell Allsup. I knew immediately that I couldn't sit idly by without speaking my peace. Russell wastes no time in chastising modern culture because it "promotes the philosophy of moral relativism, or nihilism. Academic freedom determines the quality of education liberal arts universities, but a move toward reactionary censorship threatens this. The disturbing trend has now come to SMU, as attempts to squelch dissent from majority viewpoints have come from those most responsible for protecting our academic freedom, our professors.
