Casey honored at reception

A reception welcoming the newly appointed Vice President of Finance Christine Casey was held yesterday in the Umphrey Lee Ballroom. As the reception began, the piano played lightly while SMU faculty and staff proceeded to greet President R. Gerald Turner and his wife, as well as Christine Casey and her family. (0) comments

Methodist group re-starts Bush Library battle

SMU officials said they have all the permission they need from the Methodist church to proceed with negotiations for the George W. Bush Presidential Library complex. The statement came the day a group of Methodist ministers began a second push to challenge SMU's authority to build parts of the complex on campus land. (0) comments

Enrollment down one percent for 2007-08

University enrollment is down one percent for the 2007-08 school year. While that might sound concerning, SMU officials, who didn't give a specific enrollment number, say they aren't worried by the drop. "There is a target that you like to hit, obviously we didn't hit the target this year, but with the retention rate, that offsets not hitting the target," John Kalb, director of Institutional Research said. Israeli diplomat visits SMU

Despite remarks made by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Israel is a thriving country with many opportunities for college students and recent graduates, says Deputy Consul General of Israel to the Southwest, Belaynesh Zevadia. Zevadia came to SMU Tuesday to discuss Israeli foreign affairs with professors and students. (1) comment

Senate brainstorms academic and health improvements

Co-directors of the Health Center, Dr. Nancy Merrill and Dr. Peter Davis spoke at this week's Student Senate meeting, saying students are not taking advantage of the center.
