Bennett fired mid-season; will coach final four games

Phil Bennett was fired Sunday as head coach of the SMU football team, but will stay on to coach the remaining four games this season. The decision came after a 29-23 loss at Tulsa that dropped the Mustangs to 1-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play and officially eliminated the team from bowl contention. (2) comments

Less than 24 hours into the search for SMU's next football coach, athletic director Steve Orsini's assistant had to recharge his cell phone because of the high number of phone calls. It was a good sign for a man who is embarking on what will be the signature hire of his tenure: a new football coach. (0) comments

One part of Phil Bennett's Monday press conference delved into an issue intensely familiar to those loyal to the SMU football program - the restrictions the department still operates under in regard to admissions and academics on campus. SMU hosts Three-Day walk closing ceremony

SMU YWCA sponsored the Dallas/Forth Worth closing ceremonies of the 2007 Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Three-Day. The event, in which participants walk 60 miles over three days, raises money and awareness for research, treatment and education for breast cancer, a disease that kills over 400,000 men and women every year. Students carrying armloads of law school information bustled in and out of Hughes-Trigg yesterday. This year, the SMU Law Fair featured over 88 schools from across the country. Representatives from law schools such as Emory, Boston College, Vanderbilt and Washington University distributed brochures and answered questions. (0) comments

The Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) held its fifth annual Pho Night on Sunday, providing food and entertainment for around 70 students, faculty and staff at The Varsity in Hughes-Trigg. Many VSA members dressed in traditional Vietnamese clothing, and said the festivities gave them the opportunity to educate SMU about Vietnamese history and culture, while raising money for the group and its philanthropic efforts in the Dallas area.
