While driving to campus this week, listening as I do to NPR's "Morning Addition," I had an epiphany. Perhaps not an epiphany, as much as a lightbulb moment. That's why, I told myself. They don't have the ability to self-regulate. Why didn't I know this before? It doesn't change my frustration, but at least it explains things. (0) comments

However, in spite of such films as "American Pie" and "The 40 Year Old Virgin," there remains a strong following - yes, even at SMU - that both prizes and cherishes the principles of abstinence. One candidate seeks to vastly increase the number of legal immigrants to fit the real needs of U.S. employers, in order to keep Latino families together, and to ensure undocumented workers' rights. Can we put our faith in a rookie politician to become President of the United States? Someone who stated he is willing to "meet separately, without preconditions, during the first year of my administration" with Amadinejad of Iran, Assad of Syria, Chavez of Venezuela, Castro of Cuba and Kim Jong Il of North Korea.
