Black History Month has occurred every February since 1976 when President Gerald R. Ford first officially recognized the national celebration. Before this, many college campuses, mayors and city officials had been setting aside one week in February to recognize the achievements of black Americans and other people of African decent. SMU will be celebrating Black History Month with the following events. Mark your calendars!

Feb. 4 – Black Wednesday

National Pan-Hellenic Council Yard Show

Hughes-Trigg Student Center Commons from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Feb. 5 – “Dark Girls” screening
