Ted Cruz is currently in the lead for U.S. senate at 50 percent over Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke for 49.4 percent as of 7:38 p.m., according to Politico live results.

Republican incumbent Greg Abbott leads over Lupe Valdez at 54.9 percent for the position of governor.

East Texas 1st congressional district seat has gone to Republican Louie Gohmert.

Colin Allred remains in the lead with 52.8 percent over Republican incumbent Pete Sessions.

Texas 9th Congressional District has gone to incumbent Democrat Al Green in Houston.

SMU Political Science student Matt Reitz predicts, “It is likely the Democrats take the House and make significant changes in governorships.”

“It is likely the Democrats take the House and make significant changes in governorships.”

Reitz added, “The Senate map is quite favorable to Republicans. The Democrats need to make unexpected pick ups in states like Texas, where Beto O’Rourke is performing remarkably well, as well as in Tennessee, Arizona, and Nevada.”
