Diversity career networking

On Sept. 19, SMU’S Multicultural Greek Council, the Hegi Career Center and the Women’s Center all collaborated on the upbringing of the “Diversity Career Networking Reception.”

The Reception included 20 companies such as AT&T;, Bank of Texas and Deloitte. Applicants were able to present their elevator speech and have the opportunity to ask important questions pertaining to the company they are interested in.

Many companies were asked why they were looking for applicants in the SMU community. Marsh Consulting explained that the SMU community embodies who they are looking for. They elaborated that they are looking for are those that have high energy and engaged in the SMU community. Marsh was also asked if they had a preference in majors. They clarified that although a business background would help, they are open to all who are interested and believe in their company.

The students also found the reception to be very beneficial. Junior Alex Gonzales found the reception very beneficial and educational in the sense of what a student may learn from the experience for a future company they are interested in.

The Diversity Career Networking Reception proved to be an area where both the employer and possible employee can establish a means of communication for future endeavors from both aspects.
