Fondren renovation leaves students in a scramble

SMU students are annoyed that many of their favorite places to study in Fondren Library are temporarily out of order. Renovations to the library mean Mustangs will have to search for new study spots this school year. Although the features of this $17 million renovation will enhance learning in the future, the construction may do more harm than good in the short term.

“But how will I study,” asked SMU Senior Inigo Hernandez, looking over the construction schedule. With the SIC First Floor closed, the West Stacks closed, periodicals relocated, elevators out of service until November and entrances no longer in use, the answer to this student’s question may as well be “good luck.”

Making matters worse, say some students: the July 2016 completion date. While other libraries on campus exist – including the Bridwell and Cox Libraries – the yearlong renovation of the most used building should make for an interesting school year.
