A year after convincing head coach Phil Bennett to come to the Hilltop, SMU lost part of Bennett’s staff to Kansas State. Assistant coach Bob Stanley will return to Kansas as an offensive line coach.

Stanley followed Bennett from K-State upon Bennett’s acceptance of the SMU head coaching position. His official date of hire was Dec. 17, 2001.

“Bob did a very good job for us last season and I appreciate his efforts,” Bennett said. “This is a very good opportunity for Bob and I wish him well.”

Stanley is a University of Texas alum whose 20-year coaching career has included UT, Kansas State, Temple, Akron, Purdue, Vanderbilt, TCU and Texas A&M. He has always worked with offensive lines.

The athletic department has already begun the search for Stanley’s replacement.
