The CEO of Forbes Media and editor-in-chief of Forbes Magazine Steve Forbes will give a lecture on capitalism in the Mac Ballroom Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

The event is hosted by SMU Young Americans for Freedom and is part of the organization’s Wendy P. McCaw Freedom Lecture Series.

Steve Forbes is the grandson of B.C. Forbes, the founder of Forbes magazine, and took over the magazine in 1990. In 1993, Forbes founded Empower America, a political reform organization, and later ran for president.

Forbes’ lecture will focus on free market capitalism, which according to Forbes is the superior form of capitalism. Under a free market system the economy is based on supply and demand and there is no government regulation.

Forbes also co-wrote a book in 2012 titled the Freedom Manifesto that focuses on the importance of a free market system.

Critics of free market capitalism like Mike Collins, a Forbes contributor, Mike Collins say that free market capitalism hurts the “most vulnerable citizens in society that have no alternatives”.

The lecture will feature a question and answer session at the end. The event is also co-sponsored by SMU Cox School of Business and the William J. O’Neil Center for Global Markets and Freedom.

The lecture runs until 9:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
