Golf finishes third

The SMU women’s golf team tied for third in the C-USA Championships, which finished Wednesday. The Mustangs (308-309-305-922) share third place with UCF and UTEP.

The championship tournament, held at Limestone Springs Golf Club in Alabama, ended with Memphis taking first (310-297-305-912) and East Carolina coming in at a close second (314-302-298-914) out of a total of nine participating teams.

SMU individual performances put Kate Ackerson at third overall (73-75-75-223) while sister Jennifer Ackerson (77-75-73-225) tied for fifth place. Mustang golfer Lacey Jones was absent from the tournament due to a foot injury, but still managed to make the All-Conference USA first team. Both Ackersons also were named to the team, marking the first time SMU has three of the five players on the All-Conference team.

Also participating in the tournament were Kristina Rothengatter, Ashley Deatherage and Sarah Dodson. Rothengatter tied for 17th (81-78-77-236) while Deatherage (77-84-86-247) finished 32nd. Dodson rounded out the SMU golfers with 39th place tie (89-81-80-250).
