Head’s up SMU Football fans. Bring as much school spirit as you can, but leave the big bags at home. A new safety policy at Gerald J. Ford Stadium will limit what attendees can carry into the stadium.

People attending football games will only be allowed to enter the stadium with small, clear plastic bags that measure no more than 12-by-6-by-12 inches. One gallon clear freezer bags are acceptable, as well as small clutch bags, which can be carried alone or in a small plastic bag. Fans can also carry small items like a cell phone and keys in their pockets.

This policy is modeled after safety policies from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, and other universities including Penn State and Rutgers. In a campus wide email this week, SMU noted that this policy will help prevent items from being smuggled into the stadium as well as speed up security screenings at the entry gates.

The policy will be posted in and around SMU parking lots and garages to remind fans to leave everything from purses to seat cushions behind.
