The No. 73 SMU men’s tennis team took three straight wins between Saturday and Monday, advancing the Mustangs to 12-8 for the season.

On Saturday, SMU played a double-header against No. 75 University of Arkansas-Little Rock and Prairie View A&M at the Bent Tree Country Club.

The Mustangs kicked off the day with a 6-1 victory over the Trojans. After taking the doubles point with three wins, the singles competition got under way.

At No. 1, No. 67 Alex Skrypko fell to No. 71 Dinko Halachev in three sets, 7-5, 2-6, 6-1. All the other singles took victories. David Kuczer and Oivind Alver defended No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, each winning in three sets.

Federico Murgier played at No. 4 and beat Marko Ballok 6-3, 6-4. Faghen and Adolfo Solares filled the No. 5 and No. 6 positions where each took victories.

The loss was Arkansas’ sixth of the season.

After sending the Trojans packing, SMU moved on to Prairie View A&M. The unranked team was no match for the Mustangs as they took the victory 5-1, skipping the doubles because the win was already secured.

Skrypko and Kuczer, playing No. 1 and No. 2, both ended their matches in two sets. Chris Hooshyar moved up to the No. 3 position to defeat Kudzwi Chirrdza 6-1, 6-3. Solares took another win, this time at No. 4 singles.

Red-shirt freshmen Ryan Hooker and Daniel Gonzalez saw action against the Panthers at No. 5 and No. 6. Hooker fell to Jose Garcia 7-6, 6-2 while Gonzalez took his first collegiate victory in a dual match.

The Mustangs took Sunday off before returning to the courts on Monday to face No. 41 Wisconsin. The 5-2 victory was SMU’s first over a Top 50 team this season and put Wisconsin at 9-8 for the season.

The Mustangs took the doubles point yet again with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Alver and Faghen earned their 10th doubles victory of the season while Kuczer and Solares defended the No. 3 spot.

In singles play, Skrypko defeated No. 98 Jeremy Sonkin 7-6, 2-6, 6-3. Skrypko was the third match to finish, clinching the win for SMU. Murgier finished first at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Lachezar Kasarov of Wisconsin. Kuczer at No. 2 and Solares at No. 6 rounded out the wins for SMU.

The Mustangs have three more home matches left in their nine-match home stand. Next, they face Texas-Pan American University on April 4, at the Bent Tree Country Club.
