The Mustangs will look to rebound from a season-opening loss this Friday, when they take on the No.21 Oklahoma State University Cowboys in Stillwater, Okla.

SMU is currently 0-2 against OSU, having dropped both matches to the program in the last two seasons. Now heading into the Cowboys’ territory at 0-1 after a loss to Oral Roberts University last week, SMU has revenge on their mind as they try to prove themselves among one of the top soccer programs in the country.

Last year, the Mustangs lost to OSU 0-3.

“It’s going to be a hard game,” head coach Brent Erwin said. “We’ve prepared well this week and the kids have done a lot to give themselves a chance to win. This weekend can only help us all the way down the line.”

The Cowboys host SMU with one loss as well, dropping a 0-1 shutout against the University of Colorado last week.

According to Erwin, setbacks, as he describes the loss to ORU, are “natural,” but with the first game of the season out of the way and a plethora of new talent on the field, the Mustangs can only get better.

“We’re the sort of team you don’t want to play against because we’re good,” Erwin said. “Long-term, we’re doing everything that’s right so success is going to come their way.”

Friday’s game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex. The Mustangs will host the University of North Texas in their home opener on Sept. 4 at 8 p.m.
