The finest private collection of over six hundred printed books and manuscripts detailing early medicine, science, natural history, and nineteenth century English and American literature is now open to visitors. Currently showcasing at SMU’s Bridwell library, the Ruth and Lyle Sellers Medical Collection exhibit was transferred from Baylor University Medical Center in 2015.

The vast collection was originally donated by Lyle M. Sellers, chief of the otolaryngology department at Baylor Medical Center in 1963. Sellers intended his collection to be used with the understanding that the purest educational progress is rooted in the belief in God and the thirst for knowledge in the arts and sciences.
