The SMU Mustangs travel to Oklahoma to kickoff against their Conference USA rival Tulsa this Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Mustangs have played six away matches this season, four of which have resulted in a loss.

After last week’s loss, head coach Tim McClements said the team returned to Dallas to “regroup” and prepare for their match against Tulsa. “It will be a critical game,” McClements said.

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane is currently ranked No. 16 and has a C-USA record of 3-0-1. SMU has a current C-USA record of 1-2-1. SMU’s history against Tulsa has been strong with a record of 23-6-4, although the most recent game ended 4-1 in favor of the Golden Hurricane. The Mustangs have more wins against Tulsa than any other team according to smumustangs.com.

This is the Mustangs’ second trip to Tulsa this season, with the first trip resulting in a win against Seattle (4-0) and a loss against Akron (1-0). Akron University is now ranked No. 1 in C-USA. The SMU team has historically played well on Tulsa’s field; in 2006, they won the C-USA tournament at the Hurricane Track and Soccer Stadium.

The team will have no rest after their match against Tulsa. They will return to Dallas for just a few weeks before packing up and heading to Lexington, Ky. Last season the SMU Mustangs and the Kentucky University Wildcats met at Westcott Field during a televised match. The Mustangs loss 2-1 despite the home field advantage. Overall, the Mustangs are 5-2 against Kentucky, however the two most recent games have resulted in losses for SMU. The Wildcats currently have a C-USA record of 2-3-0. Kentucky and SMU will play at 12 p.m. on Oct. 25. This will be the Mustangs’ final away game during the regular season. The team will return home for a matchup against UCF on Saturday Oct. 31 at 7 p.m.
