Human Rights Kickoff

Today the Student Leadership Initiative kicked off the school year with an event at the flagpole to raise awareness about the Embrey Human Rights Program on campus. As a rather novel organization, SLI is eager to make students conscious of the engaging opportunities that are available to them.

“Personally, I don’t think students know enough about what we do,” said senior and SLI officer Maddie Chard. “Yet, we have one of the best human rights programs in the country.”

The event introduced the organization to those who knew little about it, had sign-up sheets to join the groups under SLI, and a trivia component to get students interested. The students who did human rights research in Costa Rica this past May also had the chance to stand up and share their findings.

“We just want to get students involved,” said Chard.
