Student Senate Update

Student Senate Update

SMU’s student senate held their weekly meeting yesterday afternoon. The first speaker on the podium was Lee Arning. Arning is the Director of Emergency Preparedness at SMU. Arning updated the student senate on recent updates on keeping SMU clear from ebola. Arning promised the student senate that him and his colleagues will stay on top the ebola virus.

“I’m all ebola. All the time,” he said.

Next on the podium was Vice President Monica Finnegan. Finnegan introduced the “It’s On Us” campaign. Finnegan encouraged the student senate to help the campus change the way they think about sexual assault.

President Ramon Trespalacios was the last to speak on the podium before the senate held a recess. Trespalacios reminded the student senate about dining services at Umphrey being closed after 2 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Trespalacios finally challenged the student senate to be more engaged in the SMU community. Trespalacios wants the senate to move more legislation and start providing results for the student body.

SMU student senate meets every Tuesday below Hughes Trigg from 3:30-6.
