    Iron Skillet game moved The annual SMU vs. TCU game was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday Oct. 1, but the game has now been moved to Friday Sept. 30. The game is slated to start at 7 p.m. at the newly renovated Amon G. Carter Stadium and will be shown live on CBS Sports.

    This past weekend, the Mustangs traveled to California to compete in the 53rd annual Mount San Antonio Relays in Walnut, Calif. and in the Bryan Clay Invitational at the campus of Asuza Pacific in Azusa, Calif. After a successful trip, the track and field team returns to Dallas boasting victories in high jump, shot put and top-place finishes in the 400, 800 and 1500-meter races.

  • Three SMU swimmers earn Conference USA Swimming and Diving specialty awards

    Therese Svendsen, Nina Rangelova and Genny Konicke all earned the Conference USA Swimming and Diving specialty awards voted on by the league's coaches. Rangelova earned Freshman Swimmer of the Year, Konicke the Newcomer of the Year and Svendsen C-USA Swimmer of the Year for a consecutive year.

    SMU men's tennis falls to Rice 5-2 in final season match

    The Mustangs traveled to Houston this past weekend to take on the Rice Owls. Rice won the match 5-2 to make SMU's final season record 16-8 and 3-2 in conference play. The Mustangs were ranked 59 going into the match and the Owls were 42. First up was doubles where the Owls won all three lines.

    The SMU mens basketball team finished its season 20-15, its first time to get 20 wins since the 1999-2000 season. The Mustangs also made it to the CollegeInsider.com tournament semifinals. They had their most wins in C-USA with eight, and led the league in field goal, free throw and 3-point percentages.

    The SMU women's golf team competed for the last time this year, before heading to the Conference USA Championships, in Waco, Texas to take part in the Baylor Invitational held at the Twin Rivers Golf Club this week. The two-day tournament featured 18 teams from across the nation, including the Mustangs who tied for12th overall after posting a 946.

    The SMU men's tennis team traveled across town to take on the TCU Horned Frogs Wednesday evening. The Horned Frogs were ranked No. 66 going into the match and SMU was ranked No. 59. First up for the evening was doubles play. No. 88 Gaston Cuadranti and Arteem Baradach were first off the court at line three doubles after being defeated by Zach Nichols and David Sanchez 8-5.

    SMU men's swimming assistant coach Andy Kershaw has been named Team Manager for the 2012 United States Olympic Swim Team. Kershaw will also serve as Team Manager during the 2011 World Championships in July. While at SMU, Kershaw has led the Mustangs to seven conference championships and 37 All-American honors.

    Three members of SMU's track and field team traveled to Austin this past weekend to compete in the 2011 84th Clyde Littlfield Texas Relays at the University of Texas. It was a four- day event that concluded Saturday. The meet consisted of nearly 3,000 athletes and 70,000 fans, and is the University of Texas' biggest event of the year.

    Masters rookie Charl Schwartzel's lack of experience at the Masters Golf Tournament proved no disadvantage as he put on his green jacket post tournament win. Schwartzel sealed his win on the back nine Sunday afternoon. On the 18th hole he sank a birdie putt to confirm his victory.

    Schellas Hyndman is more than a coach and a legacy at SMU. He is a man who has accomplished much, and will always be remembered at SMU. Hyndman was born in Macau, China in 1949 to a Russian-French mother, and a Portuguese father. In 1957, while China was just in eight years of Communism control, Hyndman and his family had to leave the country in the cargo hold of a ship.

    Despite a valiant comeback in the second half, the SMU men's basketball team was unable to beat Rice University when it most counted, falling to the Owls 58-57 in the opening round of the Conference USA Tournament Wednesday night. Senior point guard Collin Mangrum hit his second three-pointer of the night with 33 seconds left to bring the Mustangs (17-14, 8-8 C-USA) within one point.

The Mustangs finished sixth at 882 in the 15-team two day event that took place at the 6,898-yard, par-72 Oakbourne Country Club. SMU bounced back from two sub-par rounds in which they carded 297 to post its lowest score (288) on the tournament's final day, which helped the Mustangs secure their sixth place finish.

SMU bounced back from two sub-par rounds in day one (289) and day two (291) to post their lowest score (277) on the tournament's final day which helped the Mustangs secure their sixth place finish.

Therese Svendsen, a junior and a backstroke expert, was named 2010 Conference USA Swimmer of the Year last April.

    Football season is finally here. SMU and Texas Tech will kick off the season in a non-conference, ESPN nationally televised game Sunday, Sept. 5 in Lubbock, Texas at Jones AT&T Stadium. Texas Tech finished 9-4 overall last season with a 5-3 Big 12 Conference record.

    SMU has agreed to hold the ESPN-televised 2010 Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl at Gerald J. Ford Stadium on Dec. 30. This is the eighth time the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl will be held, and the first time in history that the game will be played somewhere other than TCU's Amon G.

    The SMU women's soccer team started their season with a win Friday night, beating the Florida Internatioinal University's Golden Panthers 1-0. After a somewhat subdued first half, the team stepped up their game. Senior defensive player Lauren Shepherd scored the game-winning goal from the right outside corner with 13 minutes left in the game.

    The SMU men's soccer exhibition match against Houston Baptist University on Saturday showed that the Mustangs is a team full of athletes willing to push their own limits and match their opponents. The starting line-up was able to retain possession of the ball for the majority of the first half, with numerous strong shots on goal.

     The SMU Mustangs kicked off their first fall practice Aug. 7, just a month shy of their season opener in Lubbock, Texas against Texas Tech September 5th. Players completed the annual 220-yard sprint conditioning tests, based on specific time restraints according to positions.

    Sophomore women's soccer player, Emily Hairston and her father James Hairston have filed a lawsuit against both SMU and the Mustangs women's soccer coach, Brent Erwin claiming fraud and breach of contract. Hairston claims that Erwin began recruiting her when she was a sophomore at Highland Park High School.

    SMU men's golf finished in twelfth place out of 15 teams at the 44th annual Morris Williams Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday. With gusts of wind up to 15-20 miles per hour, the playing conditions were less than ideal at the par 71, 7,412-yard University of Texas Golf Club.

    Mustangs claim two top-five finishes

    With two top-five finishes and three top-10 finishes, the Mustang's track and field team had an impressive showing at this past weekend's Texas Relays in Austin. On Friday, sophomore Simone Du Toit won the discus with a throw of 53.61m. She is now third in the discus event in National Collegiate Atheletic Association's season standings.

    It is becoming a routine for the No. 28 SMU women's tennis team to come out of the weekend with an additional two wins. They did it again against the University of Texas at El Paso and the University of Central Florida. The match against UTEP took place at Turpin Tennis Center on Friday, April 2.

    SMU will put its 3-match winning streak on the line

    The No. 73 SMU men's tennis team (10-9) is on a three-match winning streak and they will look to add two more victories this weekend when they host No. 38 University of Notre Dame (9-7) and DePaul University (6-14) this Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

  • Doubleheader for SMU

    The No. 28 women's tennis team (19-3) will play their final five matches of the season at home in the Turpin Tennis Center. They will start with a doubleheader on Friday, April 2 against Conference USA rival University of Texas at El Paso (8-10) and Prairie View A&M.

  • Kraft to lead Mustangs into the Morris Williams Intercollegiate over the weekend

    The SMU men's golf team will head to Austin, Texas for the 44th annual Morris Williams Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday.     Last year, the Mustangs finished eighth out of 18 teams at the competition. As a team they carded a final-round 309 at the par-71, 7,412-yard University of Texas Golf Club.

  • Mustangs bound for the championships

    The SMU equestrian team has been chosen to participate in the Varsity Equestrian National Championships next month. The team received the No. 11 seed and will face Oklahoma State in the first round. The match will take place April 15 at the Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo Complex in Waco, Texas.

  • Renholm, Cole, Culbertson represent SMU at NCAA Championships

    The SMU men's swimming and diving team's season is now complete after competing in this year's NCAA championships, March 27-29 in Columbus, Ohio. The team sent two swimmers, senior Pontus Renholm and junior Tom Cole as well as junior diver Matthew Culbertson.
