Big East met, voted on extending invitations

Posted Nov. 1, 2011 at 5:55 p.m.

According to CBS Sports, nationally ranked Boise State and Houston along with SMU and UCF could be added as Big East members by Friday.

“Boise State, Houston, SMU and UCF prefer to be announced as league members together and must wait until Boise State’s board meeting on Thursday. There have been no “official invitations” extended to the schools, but Marinatto has been in constant contact and spoke to representatives of all six schools after Tuesday’s meeting.”

According to Sports Illustrated, the Big East Conference’s member presidents met today in Philadelphia to unanimously vote to extended invitations to football-only and all-sports members.

SMU, Houston and Central Florida will be added for all sports while Boise State, Navy and Air Force will be added to football only. Big East Commissioner John Marinatto declined to name the additional schools they hope to add.

SMU said, “We are continuing to go through the process, but do not have any comment.”
