SMU will kick off its season with a match against ULM Friday
night at 7:00 p.m. on Westcott field.

With the move to the American Athletic conference this year, the Mustangs will face a total of seven new programs for the first time, including ULM, Colorado State, DePaul, South Carolina, Temple and USF.

The Warhawks come to the AAC after finishing 10
th in the Sun Belt with a record of 4-15. Last season SMU finished with a 9-8-4 record and was undefeated on Westcott field (5-0-3). SMU also made an appearance in the Conference USA semifinals.

A win on Friday may be the first ever over ULM, but it would be SMU head Coach Chris Petrucelli’s 350th career win. He would become the 16th in NCAA Women’s soccer history to reach that mark.

A victory would also mean the Mustangs would open the season with a win for the first time in three seasons. SMU holds a 20-7 all-time record for season openers, which includes 13 straight opening day wins from 1995 to 2007.

Earlier this week, SMU forward Shelby Redman was honored by the league’s coaches and was selected to the AAC Preseason Team.

Redman, a junior, started all 21 games in 2012. She finished tied for the team lead, with nine goals, tallied seven assists, and led SMU with 25 points. Redman also hit a 40-yard game winner against TCU as time expired. She was selected to second team All-Conference USA.

SMU hopes for another strong season from Redman in its inaugural AAC campaign.
This season, the Mustangs are predicted to finish seventh in their first AAC campaign by the AAC preseason poll.

Don’t miss out on any of the action; stop by Westcott field on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and show your support.
