Men’s soccer loses to Connecticut in Hurricane Classic

The SMU men’s soccer team recorded a third loss for the season against No. 3 Connecticut at the Hurricane Classic in Tulsa, Oklahoma this last Sunday.

The Mustangs now hold a record of two wins and three losses out of the first five games of the season.

The only goal of the match was scored by Connecticut’s junior defender Max Wasserman. In the 76th minute, Wasserman found the back of the net within a free kick 25 yards out of the penalty box.

Both teams focused on playing defensively throughout the match, only taking five shots each. The Mustangs only had one shot on target, while Connecticut had an advantage of two shots on target.

SMU’s sophomore forward Juan Castillo recorded SMU’s one shot. Senior midfielder Arthur Ivo had two shots during the 74 minutes he was on the field, but none were on target.

Connecticut had Wasserman and junior defender Flo Liu take one shot on target each, Wasserman’s scored the goal.

The SMU men’s soccer team will next host Dartmouth on Sept. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the SMU Classic Presented by Jason’s Deli. The Mustangs will then face No. 23 Washington on Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.
