SMU blows past Texas State 70-49

SMU rolled to an impressive win at home over Texas State 70-49 at the Curtis Culwell Center Wednesday night.

The Mustangs dominated the Bobcats inside the paint, earning a 28-12 inside with Yanick Moreria who scored 11 points and added six rebounds.

The player of the game though was sophomore Nic Moore, who scored 16 points, added eight assists and five steals to continue his impressive play.

SMU also held Texas State to 32 percent shooting from the field. Mustangs opponents are shooting just 35.4 percent this season, but SMU was able to force 18 turnovers on Wednesday.

The Bobcats were lead by senior forward Joel Wright, who had 21 points, but the Bobcats still remain winless on the year under new head coach Danny Kaspar. Kaspar’s teams at Stephen F. Austin won 20 or more games in five of the past six seasons.

SMU built their big lead with a 14-point run to get to their 21-point lead at halftime. The lead was never in doubt as SMU built it to a 27-point lead in the second before coasting to their 21-point win.

SMU now faces Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at the Curtis Culwell Center. The Golden Lions are 2-2 to start the season so far.
