SMU Men’s soccer falls to N.C. State in overtime

The SMU Men’s soccer fell to N.C. State 1-0 in overtime Friday evening at Koskinen Stadium.

N.C. State made the game-winning shot from a corner kick.  N.C. State’s Ollie Kelly set up the ball at the flag and sent the curved shot directly into the back of the net.

SMU Coach Tim McClements said overall the Mustangs played very well and that soccer can be a cruel game.

The scoreboard, which displayed a triumphant 1-0, and the stat sheets said otherwise. The Mustangs dominated in outshooting the Wolfpack 20-9 and carried an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Leading those shots was sophomore Juan Castillo (4) and teammate Zach Barnes, who followed with three shots.  Freshmen Damien Rosales and Aaron Simmons also placed two shots on frame.

Sophomore keeper Jamie Ibarra posted 3 key saves in his first time starting for the Mustangs.

After the tough loss, the Mustangs now prepare to face the tournament host Duke on Sunday at 1:30 p.m
