SMU Tennis takes on Tulane, wins singles, loses doubles

SMU women’s tennis took on No. 59 Tulane winning three single matches, but losing the doubles 4-3, Friday.
In singles SMU had three wins from No. 2 Aleksandra Malyarchikova, No. 3 Vaszillisza Bulgakova and No. 6 Elena Fayner.
Yana Erkeeva fell 6-4 in the third set.
"We put on a great fight today," said head coach Kati Gyulai. "Matches that go down the wire define college tennis. Our very young team got an introduction to this experience. We grew because of it.
On Saturday SMU traveled to Baton Rouge to take on No. 46 LSU winning the doubles point and the top two singles spots, but fell 4-3 to the Tigers.
In doubles Elena Fayner paired with Edyta Cieplucha for an 8-4 win at No. 2 and Holly Verner paired with Hristina Dishkova at No. 3 doubles for an 8-7 victory over LSU.
In Singles Aleksandra Malyarchikova, at the No. 1 position, won in straight sets stopping LSU’s No. 112 Kaitlin Burns 6-4, 6-3.
SMU hosted No. 9 Alabama Sunday at the Northwood Country Club at 12 p.m. Results were unavailable at the time of publishing.
"This is another tough loss, but we will rebound from it," said head coach Kati Gyulai. "Our problem solving skills need some sharpening. Fortunately it is early in the season and we have time to work.
