The selection committee has made their decision and the SMU women’s soccer team will be taking on Oklahoma University in the first round of the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship. This marks their first NCAA Tournament birth since 2006.

The Mustangs played well in the AAC tournament, beating UCF and Memphis before ultimately falling to UConn 1-0 in the title game. This season has proved to be a big step forward for the program, as it was their first conference title game since 2004.

The team is ecstatic that their season will continue. “We’re excited to get the opportunity to continue play,” coach Chris Petrucelli said. “When you have a team like ours that’s so close knit, they want to stay together and keep playing.”

The Mustangs do not plan on ending their season with Oklahoma. They are focused on making a deep playoff run. As Petrucelli put it, “We have to have an attitude and take an attitude of ‘we’re going to compete as hard as we can’ and hopefully advance.”

The game will be played on Friday, Nov. 11 in Norman, Oklahoma, at 8 p.m. CT.
