SMU managed to keep TCU close for one quarter before things got out of hand.

After keeping it to a one score game going into the second quarter, SMU surrendered 49 unanswered points to lose 56-0 to TCU in the Battle for the Iron Skillet Saturday in Ford Stadium.

TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin hurt the Mustangs with his arm and his legs- compiling over 342 total offensive yards, four passing touchdowns and two more on the ground.

Deant’e Gray was Boykin’s favorite target and finished the day with 96 yards on six catches with two touchdowns.

Garret Krstich made his first start for the Mustangs and had mild success.

He finished with 142 yards on 14 of 30 passing.

Krstich seems to have performed well enough to earn at least another start next week against East Carolina.

The Horned Frogs out gained SMU by 369 yards despite only running three more plays.

Saturday’s loss to TCU marks the Mustangs fourth consecutive defeat this season. SMU is also 0-2 under interim head coach Tom Mason.

The Mustangs will be on the hunt for their first win next week when they face East Carolina on the road.
