The Mustangs pull a 1-0 victory over the Matadors

The SMU Men’s soccer traveled to Northridge, Calif. Friday to face California State University-Northridge. The Mustangs pulled off a close 1-0 victory over the Matadors.

The lone goal in the game wasn’t scored until just after the beginning of the second half by SMU freshman midfielder, Tyler Engel. The assist was credited to fellow freshman midfielder, Damian Rosales, and sophomore forward, Juan Castillo.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jaime Ibarra had a simple night in goal, saving the only three shots by the Matadors on goal. Ibarra improved his record in goal to 4-2.

The Mustangs edged the Matadors in shots and corner kicks, 14-12 and 3-2 respectively.

The Mustangs continue their California road trip against UCLA on Sunday.

The Mustangs are 2-0 in away games this season and look to make it 3 road wins on Sunday. SMU is 4-3 overall this season. The UCLA game starts at 3:00 pm. The Mustangs will then return home for their Conference USA opener against UCF on Oct. 1.
