The Pregame: SMU vs Temple

Following a win in Houston on Saturday that pushed SMU out of the American Athletic Conference cellar, the Mustangs’ women’s basketball team hosts Temple on Wednesday at Moody.

SMU shot a season-high 52 percent against Houston and received 37 bench points, including 13 from freshman Keely Frolling. The offensive success could continue against Temple, who’s opponents shoot 41 percent from the field and score 66 points per game.

All five Temple starters average at least 10 points per game, with Alliya Butts leading the way at 12.7. Temple shoots 36 percent from the field and 32 percent from three.

SMU enters the game at 6-20 and 2-13 in conference play, while the Owls sit at 13-15 with a 9-6 record. The teams last met on Dec. 30 in Philadelphia, with Temple winning 77-64. The 64 points were the fifth-highest total the Mustangs have recorded this season.

Three-on-three: Temple vs. SMU

G Alliya Butts: The freshman leads the Owls with 12.7 points per game and is second on the team in three-point percentage (34.2). She also has a team-high 57 steals.

G Tyonna Williams: The Owls assist leader at 3.1 points per game also chips in 10.1 points per game.

G Erica Covile: Covile leads the team with 8.6 rebounds per game, and her 42 percent field goal percentage leads all Temple starters.

G Morgan Bolton: Bolton leads SMU with 31 made three-pointers and a 29.2 three-point percentage. She’s also dished out a team-high 61 assists.

F Alicia Frolling: The Australia native paces SMU with 12.1 points per game and is second with 7.3 rebounds per game. She scored 20 points in the first matchup with Temple this season.

F Destynee Hives-McCray: The Mustangs leader with 7.8 rebounds per game and six double-doubles, but also the leader with four games fouled out.
