On Sunday, the SMU men’s soccer team began exhibition play with a 1-1 draw against Houston Baptist on a soggy Westcott Field.

Two minutes into the second half HBU’s Ricky-Paul Mupier hit a rainbow over SMU’s keeper to open up the scoring and put Houston Baptist out in front. Alex Baez was credited with the assist on Mupier’s goal.

Houston Baptist didn’t hold their lead for long though, Abdul Yassine tied things up in the 60th minute with a missile from 25 yards out. Yassine tried his luck with a couple more long-shots, but none of them found the back of the net and the game ended in a tie.

SMU rolled out three different keepers against Houston Baptist, Michael Nelson, Caleb Underwood and Avery Miller.

The Mustangs will continue preseason competition when they host UT Dallas on Wednesday at Westcott Field. SMU will close out exhibition play on Saturday when they will host Incarnate Word.
