I am not an Ariana Grande fan. Please keep that in mind as you read the following article.

I had the pleasure of attending Ariana Grande’s Honeymoon Tour as it made a stop in Dallas last Wednesday. Unprepared would probably be the best adjective to describe my experience.

The average age of the people in attendance was about 11 years old, so my friend and I were probably the oldest ones there, aside from the moms who took the 11 year olds there to begin with. And everyone—I mean everyone—was wearing cat ears.

I should have buffed up on my Ariana Grande trivia before I came because apparently those cat ears are her thing. But don’t worry, if you forgot your cat ears, they sold special Honeymoon Tour LED cat ears that lit up along with the show (which I guess was actually pretty cool.)

There is no doubt that most of the audience was up way past their bedtime, because Grande herself didn’t come on stage until around 9 or 9:30 p.m. after opening acts Cashmere Cat and new British boyband sensation (and maybe wannabe One Direction?) Rixon performed.

She of course opened with “Bang Bang,” with lots of fireworks and lights and special effects on the screen—the whole thing was a big spectacle—and I was instantly impressed because she was really singing. That girl has one powerful voice, let me tell you. It was almost overwhelming.

The rest of the concert was as expected, lots of costume changes (always into something short and sparkly), lots of lights and lots of showy entrances (the girl came in riding on a giant chandelier for goodness sake). She sang other classics like “One Last time,” “The Way” and “Problem,” as well as older songs of hers like “Pink Champaign,” all of which got everyone riled up. My only issue from the concert was that every time she left the stage, she had to descend into it and it always took her a little too long to come back on, so I would lose interest between songs.

All of this is coming from me, though, a mild skeptic. I know that many of the tweens in the audience idolize Ariana Grande, and I got to be there to witness what was probably the best night of their lives so far, and that was the coolest part. She is definitely making an impact and will be here for a while, singing her heart out and selling out the biggest of venues.
