“The Great Gatsby” originally was to be released around Christmas time of last year.

Now, the highly anticipated film version of the acclaimed novel will be released in theaters nationwide on Friday, May 10, 2013.

The film is set to be in 3-D, which will give a new spin on the classic tale.

Baz Luhrmahn of “Australia,” “Moulin Rouge!” and “Romeo + Juliet” is the director.

Oddly enough, the film was shot in Australia.

Can Carey Mulligan live up to the performance of Mia Farrow’s Daisy Buchanan or Leonardo DiCaprio to Robert Redford’s Gatsby?

It was rumored that Amanda Seyfried, Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, Michelle Williams and Keira Knightley were all contenders to play Daisy.

Additionally, Tom Buchanan (being played by Tobey Macguire) was supposedly offered to Ben Affleck.

A recent theater school graduate, Elizabeth Debicki, will play Jordan Baker and Isla Fisher is portraying Myrtle.

Joel Edgerton, an Australian actor, took the role of Tom Buchanan.

Although little known, “The Great Gatsby” has been made into a feature film three times, the first being in 1926.

According to the Huffington Post, F. Scott Fitzgerald reportedly “didn’t stay in the theater to see the end of the only version of the novel made during his lifetime.”

The most recent trailer featured music from Lana Del Rey, Andre 3000, Florence + the Machine and Beyonce.

Check iTunes May 7th for the film’s soundtrack, which also consists of songs by other artists such as Jay-Z, Nero, Jack White, Gotye and Will.i.am.
